Pin Oak

Named for the many short side twigs or pin-like spurs on its branches. This hardy species is easily transplanted because of its shallow, fibrous root system with no tap root. This is a mainstay for mast production in wet, poorly drained flood-prone soils. A favorite of ducks. While deciduous, the leaves are retained through the winter.
